BIO - Sarah Rose

Sarah was the first trainer to join the DOGTIME® team as an Authorized DOGTIME® Canine Coach.

Sarah has worked and played with animals since she was a child. Her childhood experiences include riding every horse she could get her hands on and visiting every dog in the neighborhood on her way home from school.  Her parents finally had to put rules on the types of animals she brought home, as the piglet was pushing the limit! Her father encouraged her into the field of education, as his observations of Sarah’s interactions with animals led him to believe that she had a talent to teach.

As an Early Childhood Educator for over 20 years, Sarah has had extensive experience working with children and families.  After raising her golden retriever, Sawyer, in the preschool setting, she became interested in the concept of therapy dogs for children.  Also, she knew the importance of exposing children to animals.

When Sarah was in the midst of running her own preschool, she read an article in an SPCA magazine about therapy dogs that go into school classrooms to read with children.  This was the catalyst to her decision to combine her love of dogs with her early childhood education career. She graduated from a professional dog training school as a certified trainer.  Sarah then approached the local St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program and began the process of becoming a member.  In doing so, she became the coordinator of the Kamloops program and eventually had Sawyer tested with children.  They now visit a school for children with autism and Sarah continues to learn about the importance of raising and maintaining a well balanced, happy companion animal.

In addition to her love of therapy dogs, Sarah has always been fascinated with behaviors and likes to take on the challenge of learning how to communicate so that the relationship between humans and dogs develops into one of mutual respect. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a balanced canine through a variety of methods that include exercise, mental stimulation, massage, socialization, training and most of all, respect. One of Sarah's training specialties is helping individuals transfer their training with their dog to the outdoors. Sarah decided to join DOGTIME® after meeting the founder, Michelle Sevigny, and discovered that they both share the same vision about working with dogs.

Sarah, who is an avid trail runner, enjoys spending a great deal of recreation time with her dog, Sawyer, in the hills of Kamloops and surrounding area.  Sarah’s family of animals includes her three golden retrievers, two horses and three cats.
